****IMPORTANT: PROCTORS NEEDED FOR EOG*****
End-of-year testing will be here before you know it! We need LOTS of proctors to help us test all of our students in a short period of time. Proctors are responsible for helping the test administrator monitor students during the testing period. Proctors do not handle test materials and are never left alone in a testing room with testing materials.
Anyone that signs up to be a proctor will need to come here (to the media center) to register as a volunteer with Wake County. The application doesn't take long. The county will do a background check on the person and s/he will receive an email notification once their application has been processed. This takes several weeks, so we need to make sure you get registered now.
The sign up link is below. Please click on it and sign up for a day if you are available to Proctor. In the comments section you can put my name so that they know who referred you.
Thank you in advance for your efforts!

***Video Homework ***
This quarter I am going to continue with using videos for homework. On most nights, students will need to watch a video on the upcoming lesson and fill in their notes. Students are able to watch these through a computer, tablet, or smartphone. I will attach the links to my website as well as Google Classroom. I will be supplying the students with the notes that go along with the video. I will also put a link on the homework page on this website as well as in Google Classroom for the notes in case a student misplaces them. Please encourage your child to watch the videos and complete these notes. The videos last anywhere between 10 minutes and 15 minutes. On nights that students do not have a video to watch, they will have an activity to complete that helps to enrich that day's lesson. The next day following a video homework assignment, we will review the "In Class" portion on the notes. If for some reason your child can't access the internet, please contact me through my email and we will work out something for your child. (Students can get to school and come to my class between 7:00 am and 7:20 am to access the video on the classroom computers).
During our fourth quarter, we will be covering the following:
Surface Area and Volume
Collect, Analyze, and Display Data (Statistics Unit)
Review for EOG
This year has been moving fast. We are now coming in to our last two weeks of the school year. If I provided your child with a binder, they will need to be returned to me on Monday, June 25th. I will keep a list of students that have borrowed a binder from me. Student will be responsible for keeping up with their binders and all materials contained within. I will have students take out all their 3rd quarter materials and place in a file folder. These will need to be kept in their locker at school so that they will be able to use and reference these during our EOG Review time. These materials along with their notebooks from 1st and 2nd quarter will be of great use when it comes time to review.
Math Lessons/Week in Review:
Week of June 11th:
On Monday, we continue reviewing for the EOG's. We will continue our review with Expressions and Equations. Today students will work through various problems on the Released EOG that involve the domain Expressions and Equations. Students will not be able to use the calculator for today's review. On Tuesday students will continue with the Expressions and Equations domain, but today they will practice with a calculator. Students will also complete an exit ticket to show if they will need additional review on Wednesday. On Wednesday students who need the additional review will work through 3 different stations. Students who are proficient will be able to work on their final project or may work on Khan Academy completing any missing assignments. On Thursday, we will continue our review with Ratios and Percents. Today students will work through various problems on the Released EOG that involve the domain Ratios and Percents. Students will not be able to use the calculator for today's review. On Friday students will continue with the Ratios and Percents domain, but today they will practice with a calculator. Students will also complete an exit ticket to show if they will need additional review on Monday.
Week of June 18th:
On Monday, students will finish up their review on Ratio and Percents by completing any problems in their EOG Released Review Folders and going over any of the teacher review problems that they did on Friday. On Tuesday, students will begin to review Geometry. Students will work in their EOG review folders completing the calculator inactive questions. Students will work in their table groups to complete these problems. Once they have completed, I will select student volunteers to come up and model the strategy they used to solve. On Wednesday, students will be working on the calculator active portion of the EOG released Geometry questions. On Thursday, students will complete the review on the Geometry domain portion by rotating through three different stations. The stations consist of Khan Academy, small group with the teacher working on any problems they may not understand on the Geometry review, and playing a Jeopardy Game. On Friday, there will be not Math Classes as the students will be completing their ELA End of Grade Assessment.
Week of June 25th:
On Monday, students will review the last unit they did on Statistics. Students will complete the remaining problems in their EOG Review Folder and a exit ticket on that domain. If time permits we will play a Jeopardy type game reviewing all standards taught this year. On Tuesday, there will be no math classes as students will be completing the Math End of Grade Assessment. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday students will be working on making a board game that goes along with what they learned this year. Students will be able to work in groups of four to come up with a board game, instructions, design the board game and all the necessary pieces that need to go along with it. Congrats on making it to the end of your 6th grade year!
Please check my homework page for copies of that nights homework in case your child has misplaced it or left it at school.
Please check my resource page for links to many different videos and practice sites. There is a link for parents to watch videos that Wake County has provided to help explain the strategies that your child will be learning.
Khan Academy:
This year we will be using Khan Academy! I have uploaded each student into their designated classes on Khan Academy. I will assign assignments through Khan Academy that helps enrich what they are learning in the classroom. I will also assign assignments for remediation, enrichment, and review. This is a great website for students. If they are struggling with a problem, there is a video link attached to the question for students to click on and watch how to solve a similar problem. Please encourage your child to utilize this resource. Starting this coming up week, students will be able to earn tickets by completing assignments. Students may use these tickets to enter in the quarterly drawing to earn a prize (bigger item), redeem for homework passes, or redeem for various small prizes (pencils, erasers, pens, highlighters, etc). The link for Khan Academy is below and students will receive their login information this coming up week.
Khan Academy
WIN Time:
WIN stands for "What I Need" and we have built in to our schedules 30 minutes every day for WIN Time. WIN time can be used for enrichment as well as remediation. Students will be able to work in small groups with the teacher on any area of need for remediation. Students who need enrichment may work on the computer, with a small group,or on projects.
**Math Tests**
All my math tests are open notes. Students may use their math notebooks, classwork, and notes to help assist them when taking the math test. Students will be given the whole class period to take the math test. If students finish early, I will check through it and hand it back to them to make any corrections on the ones they have missed. Once the class period is over, I will grade their test and enter into PowerSchools. Students that scored a 79 or below will then be given their tests back and they may make corrections on any questions they missed earning 1/2 credit after having remediation during WIN Time.
**Missed School**
If for any reason your child has missed school, there is a file folder crate at the back of the room labeled with each week and day. Students know they need to go back to the crate and collect their missing work. There will be copies of notes as well as copies of the missed assignments. Students have been shown where the crate is and how to locate their missing assignments. Students will have 2 days to complete any missing assignments and turned into the teacher.
**Power School**
Please sign up for a parent account with Power School to access your student’s grades 24/7. You may have completed this when we had schedule pick up on Saturday July 15th 2017. You will be contacted with your personal login information. If you would like more information on Power Schools please use the following link: http://www.wcpss.net/domain/12891
